The Interest Graph will Cull the Herd:
A couple of years ago you could throw a stone and not hit a single Social Media Consultant. It’s different today, and for good reason — “the social web” is now “the web”, and companies need to know how to deal or they’ll concede an edge to their savvy competitors. But what about tomorrow? The web isn’t standing still. Looking past the social graph of today to the interest graph-enabled web of later this afternoon, big changes are coming that will separate the wheat from the chaff in the emergent field of social media consultation.
Clayton Stark is a seasoned technology executive and entrepreneur, and leader of the Victoria-based team behind Flock, the Social Web Browser. For the last four years Clayton has been immersed in the social media product landscape — during this period Flock has reached almost 20 million people, Odeo birthed Twttr which became Twitter, MySpace exploded and imploded, Facebook innovated the controversial news feed, and Pownce and Piczo appeared and then evaporated. Clayton and his colleagues are currently involved in helping shape the interest graph, and are witness to the beginnings of sea change in how we will all discover media, how we will be marketed to, and what other people and businesses will ultimately know about you and your clients.
