Social Media surrounds us and can be used in virtually all aspects of our lives today. This panel examines social media use in the university classroom. Both presenters have effectively used social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, You Tube, and Blogs) in their Political Science classrooms. The panelists will speak to these experiences and student responses to the Web 2.0 platforms.

Biography:
Dr. Janni Aragon (BA Women’s Studies, San Diego State; MA Liberal Arts and Sciences, San Diego State; MA Political Science, University of California; PhD Political Science, University of California) is a Political Scientist in the Department of Political Science at the University of Victoria. Previously she taught Political Science or Women’s Studies at three universities or colleges in Southern California. She regularly comments on issues related to social media and politics, feminism and gender, and American politics.

Dr. Aragon’s research interests include: Gender and Politics, American Politics, Women and Technology, Feminist Theories. She has been published in New Political Science, Women’s Studies Quarterly, and the International Journal of Media and Cultural Politics. She is currently working on a project focused on pedagogy, popular culture, and technology entitled, “Feminist Pedagogical Border Crossing: Using Popular Culture to Teach Globalization to the ‘Net Gen.’” She and two colleagues from Women’s Studies are editing an introductory Women’s Studies book that will have 50%+ Canadian content.
