Each year at Social Media Camp, we work with a great local charity to help bring them some well-deserved praise, general awareness, and, of course, funds. This year we are delighted to partner with Power To Be as our official charity partner.
Power To Be has been empowering people to explore their limitless abilities through inclusive adventures rooted in nature since 1998. It started with an idea to help people living with a disability or barrier access nature. That idea grew into a community, connecting participants to adventures and supporters to opportunities, collectively helping redefine our definition of ability.
In 2015, the organization supported more than 1,200 participants through more than 450 programs in Victoria and Vancouver. Volunteers donated more than 6,500 hours of their time to support activities such as kayaking, canoeing, camping, hiking and exploring in nature.
Power To Be has a knack for building community connections – for its participants and for the individuals and corporations who support the organization itself. While their mission is to support people to explore nature and what is possible for themselves, they are a great example of a non-profit leveraging the power of social media to support their work. You can find them on Facebook and Twitter, and be sure to check out their booth Friday and Saturday at camp.
We are proud to be able to support the great work of this important local non-profit agency.
