I love livestreaming, catching the bug in May 2015 after spending the prior year creating YouTube videos. That said, there have been many changes in the streaming landscape –new platforms and technology coming to market as others shutter. Livestreaming is now mainstream–new apps come to market almost monthly with YouTube finally getting into the mobile streaming game.
As a multistreamer, I broadcast 3 shows 4 days a week on 6 (mobile) streaming platforms simultaneously—thanks in part to a California tech company called Arkon Mounts. They have a variety of livestreaming mounts for your broadcasting needs including:
- sitting vs standing
- smartphone (brand & size specific) to tablet to laptop
- mobile or stationary
- table, car or floor
Having begun multi-streaming with a Side-by-Side Phone Tripod Mount and Floor Stand Holder, Arkon Mounts created a custom mount for me which holds 7 devices (3 iTouches, iPhone 5s, iPhone 7, iPad mini and iPad Air) called “The CandyCaster”.
Initially streaming on Periscope, I have seen the app’s community grow and change over time, now said to be on the decline. While there are more livestreaming apps/apps with livestreaming capability than we can count on our hands and feet, my favorite is Instagram Live. Why? Well, if you follow your followers and engage with their content, you feel like you know them. Imagine throwing a party and all of your pen pals showing up! And guess what? They’re as excited to see me as I am to see them! The only drawbacks are streams don’t save and streaming is limited to about an hour, but as Instagram is owned by Facebook, I’m going to continue to watch the livestreaming space for further developments.
Wanna trade livestreaming stories? I’ll be at Social Media Camp with a featured session, “The world in the palm of your hand: Going global through livestreaming” on Wednesday, May 3, 11:00 – 11:50am. And just to make sure we are friends, please feel free to follow me, Ms. Candy Blog, on all of your favorite social platforms.
